Arrival in Chicago

We arrived to Saint Louis early in the morning and had a 1½ hour long stop there.

When we left the station in Saint Louis we saw the huge arch.

The building to the left is John Hancock Center in Chicago, not very far from our hotel (we can actually see it from our window).

San Antonio - Chicago

The train left San Antonio at 8 am. This is the station building.

Inside the train.

We make a short stop in Fort Worth.

Janne in front of our train car.

We have now reached Dallas and this is the place where Kennedy was shot.

A stop in Mineola, Texas.

San Antonio

Well, we thought we were going to New Orleans, but Ivan the terrible (the hurricane if anyone missed that on the news) had other plans for us. Our train stopped in San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday morning and everyone had to get off there. We were offered a flight to New Orleans, but since 1.2 million people in New Orleans were evacuating the city it didn't seem like a very good idea to go there even if that had been our plan. So we changed our tickets so we could take the train to Chicago the next day. In the meantime, Amtrak paid for one hotel night in San Antonio which turned out to be a very nice and beautiful city. We really enjoyed our day there. Above is a photo of the Alamo in the heart of the city.

We had lunch at Joe's Crab Shack at the Riverwalk.

This was the view from the restaurant.

The riverwalk.

We decided to eat dinner at Café Olé.

Janne is studying the menu. We finally decided to eat tortillas and they were very good.

Maricopa - New Orleans

We are onboard the train again, going from Maricopa south of Phoenix to New Orleans, Louisiana (at least that's what we thought when we went on the train early Monday morning). This is the station building in Tucson, Arizona.

Canyon Lake

Today Gene and Charlie took us on a trip up in Superstition mountains and to Canyon Lake. There we took a 90 minute long cruise on the Dolly Steamboat.

It was very beautiful and we really enjoyed it. Here are some pictures taken from the boat.

We also went to a place called Tortilla Flat, which was really interesting. They had the smallest museum I have ever seen.

This building is the Superstition saloon and a also a souvenir shop.

In the evening we went to Café Posada to eat really good Mexican food. It's Gene and Joan on the photo.

Shopping day

Today was a shopping day. After we returned the car at the airport we went to Arizona Mills Mall and looked around there. We also had lunch at Johnny Rockets and they had the best milshakes I have ever tasted. Then we continued to a new Target Superstore and after that we went to Fiesta Mall. After that it was time for dinner at Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon.

Sedona, Arizona.

8 september - Sedona, Arizona.

Today we went on a trip a couple of hours north of Phoenix. We had breakfast in Grand Verde and saw the worlds biggest Kokopelli.

We have arrived in Sedona, a wonderful place with red rocks.

A beautiful church in the middle of all the red rocks.

Here I am in the Slide Rock State Park.

In the evening Joan took us to Organ Stop Pizza and we had a good pepperoni pizza while we listened to this man who played the organ. Quite an unusual place.
